Hi everyone! In this game we will be writing about the two semi-final matches that took place on July 22 in Rio Tinto stadium! So the games we will be writing about are Houston Dash v Portland Thorns FC and Chicago Red Stars v Sky Blue FC. Let's get started!
Houston Dash V Portland Thorns FC
This game was very back and forth. Both teams took shots but non of them were able to make it into the goal. In the sixty-ninth minute Sophie Schmidt shot the ball and it hit the crossbar, Rachel Daly was there though and was able to head the ball into the back of the net! This was the goal that sent the Dash through to the finals!
Chicago Red Stars v Sky Blue FC
This was a fun game to watch! Only eight minutes in Chicago scored! Bianca St. Georges received the ball in the box, cut it back and shot it into the bottom left corner! Chicago was already up 1-0! Then three minutes later in the eleventh Rachel Hill received the ball in the box, settled it and shot the ball into the bottom right corner! Only eleven minutes in and Chicago was all ready up 2-0! No more goals were score in the first half. But the second half was a different story. In the sixtieth minute Savannah McCaskill recieved the ball in the box and shot it into the goal. Sky Blue's goalkeeper got a hand on it but she wasn't able to save it. Chicago was up 3-0! But Sky Blue wasn't giving up. In the seventy-second minute Evelyne Veins headed the ball into the middle of the goal. She had received the ball after it had been bobbled around in the box. Sky Blue was starting to make a comeback! A few minutes later in the seventy seventh minute Julie Ertz tried to clear the ball out of the box but accidentally scored an own goal. No more goals were scored in the rest of the game. The final score ended up being Chicago Red Stars 3, Sky Blue 2. The Chicago Red Stars are going to the finals!
