The USWNT played Brazil on July 30, 2017, for the 2017 Tournament of Nations. They needed to win by two points to win the tournament. They played at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, California. The USWNT is playing in a 4-3-3 formation and their starting lineup was Alyssa Naeher, Kelly O'Hara, Casey Short, Abby Dahlkemper, Taylor Smith, Sam Mewis, Becky Sauerbrunn, Carli Lloyd (Captain), Megan Rapinoe, Alex Morgan, and Crystal Dunn, Their head coach was Jill Ellis.
1st Half
Brazil started with kickoff and the game was on. In the first minute, I repeat the first-minute, Anderssinaha for Brazil took a shot from outside the 18-yard box which went to Alyssa Naeher but with the sun in her eyes the ball went right threw her hands! The first minute! Just like that Brazil was up! The US still had plenty of time to come back though. In the sixth minute after Becky Sauerbrunn was fouled, the US got an indirect free kick on the 6 -yard box line. In the eleventh minute, Crystal Dunn chipped the ball to Alex Morgan from inside the 18-yard box. Morgan was able to get her head on the ball but the ball bounced down and went right to the keeper. Later in the eighteenth minute, Megan Rapinoe cut back from the 18-yard box line and passed back to Sam Mewis who rocketed it into the bottom left corner of the goal! The score was tied 1-1! A couple of minutes later, in the twenty-second minute, the US got a free-kick from just outside the 18-yard box after Alex Morgan was fouled. Megan Rapinoe took a beautiful shot but the goalkeeper was able to dive and deflect the ball wide. Later in the thirty-first minute, Alyssa Naeher came out and jumped up to get the ball but as she was coming down a Brazilan player kicked the ball out of her hands and into the goal. It was a tough call for the refs but they said that the goal didn't count. The score was still 1-1.
2nd Half
The US started with kickoff and the second half had started. In the fifty-third minute, Mallory Pugh(22) was subbed in for Crystal Dunn(19). A few minutes later in the fifty-fourth minute, Becky Sauerbrunn received a yellow card for a bad foul. Then later in the fifty-seventh minute, Christen Press(23) was subbed in for Alex Morgan(13), and Julie Ertz(8) is subbed in for Taylor Smith(16). Then in the sixty-third minute, Brazils Bruna Benites scored in the bottom left corner. Brazil was now leading 2-1. In the sixty-ninth minute, Mallory Pugh shot the ball towards the goal but the Brazilian goalkeeper was able to deflect to out. The ball went to Christen Press, who also had a very nice shot on goal, but Brazil's goalkeeper was able to deflect it out again. In the seventy-sixth minute, Christen Press missed a close header. Only a few seconds later, in the seventy-seventh minute, Sydney Leroux(2) was subbed in for Casey Short(14). A few seconds later Kelley O'Hara received a yellow card for pulling a player down. In the seventy-eight minute, Brazil scores off a free-kick from just outside the box. Two minutes later in the eightieth minute, Christen Press launched the ball from inside the box and it soared right into the top left corner! The US was catching up! Five minutes later in the eighty-fifth minute, Megan Rapinoe used her left foot and shot the ball near the left post, and it went in! The US had tied Brazil! Then in the eighty-sixth minute, Allie Long was subbed in for Sam Mewis. A few minutes later in the eighty-ninth minute, Julie Ertz shot the ball into the middle of the goal! The stadium erupted in screams! The US had managed to not only tie the game but they were able to take the lead! Two minutes later in the ninety-first minute, the US subbed Lynn Williams in for Megan Rapinoe. After four minutes of extra time, the US had managed to pull off the win!
