Hi everyone! We hope everyone is doing well and staying safe. We apologize for writing late, we have been very busy with it being the end of the soccer season and school finishing up. Let's get to it!
Orlando Pride v Portland Thorns, May 26
The game took a a little time to get going and Orlando was the first to strike. In the 22nd minute after receiving a chip into the 18 yard box Alex Morgan volleyed the ball across her body into the right side netting of the goal! Orlando was up! It was looking like the half was going to finish with Orlando up but the Thorns weren't going to let that happen. In the 42nd minute Simone Charley who got up and headed the ball into the back of the net! The game was all tied up. Not even a minute into the second half after a bad pass back from Portland Sydney Leroux was able to get a touch on the ball and put it in the back of the net! The game finished with Orlando winning 2-1!
Kansas City v Chicago Red Stars, May 26
This game had a lot of opportunities but none of them were finished until later in the game. In the 67th minute Kealia Watt scored an amazing goal from just outside the box to put Chicago ahead. Only 3 minutes later in the 70th minute Mallory Pugh crossed the ball into the box back to Makenzy Doniak how passed the ball into the back of the net! Chicago took how the 2-0 victory over Kansas City.
Washington Spirit v Houston Dash, May 26
Houston started off fast! In the 9th minute after a beautiful passing sequence and getting the cross in front of the goal Rachel Daly was able to get her head to the ball and put it in the back of the net! Houston was up 1-0 with in the first 10 minutes. Later in the 21st minute Ashley Sanchez got the ball and was able to chip the goalkeeper to tie the game up! Later in the 70th minute Houstons goalkeeper stayed on her line giving Ashley Hatch the opportunity to get closer, then force the goalkeeper to come off her line. Ashley Hatch was able to to beat her and score the game winner goal.
North Carolina Courage v Racing Louisville FC, May 28
This game did not take long to get exciting. In the 7th minute Abby Erceg headed the ball into the post where it bounced into the goal. North Carolina was already up 1-0. For the rest of the half there were some more shots but neither team was able to score. The second half was a different story. In the 63rd minute Lynn Williams received the ball and shot it into the lower right corner, North Carolina was up 2-0! Only five minutes later Debinah was able to tap the ball into the net putting North Carolina up 3-0! A few minutes later in the 75th minute Hailie Mace scored a beautiful goal from outside the box putting North Carolina up 4-0! Hailie Mace wasn't done yet, in the 90th minute scored another beautiful goal putting North Carolina up 5-0! Neither team was able to score again and the and North Carolina took the 5-0 win!
Houston Dash v Chicago Red Stars, May 29
This was an interesting game. In the 4th minute Mallory Pugh slotted the ball into the bottom right corner of the goal, putting Chicago up 1-0! Later on in the 18th minute Nichelle Prince shot the ball near post, scoring a beautiful goal! Houston and Chicago were now tied 1-1! In the 41st minute Kristie Mewis scored but it was called offsides. Neither team was able to score again in the first half. In the second there were more shots but neither team was able to score until the 83rd minute, when Kristie Mewis was able to knock the ball into the goal! Houston was now winning 2-1! Neither team was able to score again and the final score ended up being Houston 2, Chicago 1.
NJ/NY Gotham FC v Portland Thorns, May 30
This was a well matched game. It was very back and forth and neither team was able to score for a while. The only goal to be scored was in the 56th minute when Crystal Dunn shot the ball into the upper left corner, getting Portland the win! The final score was NJ/NY 0, Portland 1.
