NWSL games (April 20-27)

Hi everyone! We hope everyone is staying safe and healthy! There have been a lot of NWSL games this past week and we are going to fill you in on them. Lets get to it!

North Carolina Courage v Gotham FC

This was a very very busy game and there was a total of 7 goals scored! It took about 20 minutes for the game to get going but once it did, it didn't stop. In the 18th minute of the game Margaret Purce got played a pass and dribbled all the way down the field and put the ball in the back of the net! Gotham was up 1-0. Debinha for the Courage fought back for the courage, she received the ball after it deflected inside the 18 yard box and put it in to the bottom left corner of the goal! The game was all tied up. Only 2 minutes later in the 24th minute Debinha scored again in almost the exact same way! The Courage had come back! Then 2 minute later Margaret Purce got played the ball just in front of the goal and Purce was able to tap it in! Later in the 32nd minute Carli Lloyd got played the ball in from the of the 6 yard box and passed the ball into the corner of the net! Gotham was back up! Halftime came and the score was 3-2. It didn't take long for North Carolina to come back, after getting played a high ball Jessica McDonald ran on to it and was able to head it in to the back of the net! All tied up once again. It was looking like it was going to end in a tie but Gotham was able to cross the ball into the box where Evelyn Viens won the game for Gotham FC!

Chicago Red Stars v Kansas City

This was a pretty evenly matched game. Both teams had some shots in the first half but neither team was able to score until close to the end of the second half. In the 18th minute Amy Rodriguez took advantage of Chicagos defense being slow and shot the ball into the lower left corner! Kansas City was up 1-0! Just three minutes later Chicago tied the game. Katie Johnson received a beautiful through ball setting her up to slot the ball into the lower right corner! Neither team scored again and the final score was Kansas City 1 Chicago 1.

Orlando Pride v Washington Spirit

Let me just start off by saying, this will probably go down in the history books and one of Ashlyn Harris best games ever. She did so amazing, we are still in shock. She took so many shots, including a penally kick (which she saved) giving Orlando the 1-0 win. Orlando got their goal early on, in the 11th minute Alex Morgan won the ball, played a long ball to Sydney Leroux who was able to shoot the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal! This score stuck for the rest of the game, but with out Harris it would have been a completely different game. It is worth noting that in the 90+2 minute of the game Kelly O'Hara slide tackled Alex Morgan illegally earning O'Hara a second yellow card. The meant that she got a red card which sent her off the field for the rest of the game.

Portland Thorns v OL Reign

Portland came out strong in the first half. After getting the free kick just outside the box, Lindsey Horan lined up to take the kick. Getting a bit of a curve on it Lindsey Horan was able to put the ball pretty close to the upper left corner of the goal! Portlands second goal came right after half time. After the ball was crossed in, and a mis-communication for the OL Reign, the ball was bobbled and Lindsey Horan took the shot but it deflected of the goal keeper. Simone Charley was there and able to put the ball in the back of the net. Portlands 2-0 score held up till the end and Portland took home the 3 points for the win!

Racing Louisville v North Carolina Courage

This was a good game. In the 24th minute Cece Kizer scored a beautiful header into the bottom right corner! Nine minutes later in Kristen Hamilton scored a beautiful header goal into the right side of the goal! The ball bounced off of the post into the goal! Than in the 57th minute Debinha scored a beautiful upper ninety goal! Later on in the 75th minute Jorian Baucom scored an amazing goal. She tied the game! In the 84th minute Julia Ashley scored an own goal. The final score was Racing Louisville 2, North Carolina Courage 3.

Kansas City v Houston Dash

This was a fun game. Kristie Mewis scored a beautiful goal in the 25th minute from right outside the box! In the first minute of extra time in the first half Rachel Daly scored a great penalty kick! She slotted the ball right into the bottom right corner. The Dash was now up 2-0. Later on in the seventy-first minute Kristie Mewis scored a great left footed goal! That was her second goal of the game! Than in the seventy-seventh minute Michele Vasconcelos chipped the ball over the Dashes goalie, putting Kansas on the board! Neither team was able to score again Kansas City 1, Houston Dash 3.

Washington Spirit v Gotham City FC

Both teams took a lot of shots and some we were so surprised didn't go in. Both goalkeepers made some pretty crucial saves to end the goal in a 0-0 tie, letting each team take home a point.

OL Reign v Chicago Red Stars

This was an interesting game. The first goal scored was in the thirty-eighth minute Mallory Pugh took a beautiful touch setting her up to slot the ball into the bottom left corner! Chicago was up 1-0! This was also Mallory Pugh first goal with the Chicago Red Stars so congrats to her! OL Reign was quick to come back though. In the forty-first minute Sofia Huerta received a great through ball and shot the ball into the bottom left corner! The game was tied! Those were the only goals of the first half. In the second half the both team were working hard to score. The first goal scored in the second half was a simple but great goal. In the seventieth minute Leah Pruitt one touch shot the ball into the bottom right corner! OL Reign was up 2-1! Seventeen minutes later in the eighty-seventh minute Tziarra King scored a beautiful goal slotting the ball into the bottom right corner. OL Reign was up 3-1. Chicago was not done just yet. In the ninetieth minute Morgan Gautrat (formerly known as Morgan Brian) volleyed the ball into the net off a corner. While Chicago made it a close game they were not able to secure the tie. The final score was OL Reign 3 Chicago Red Stars 2.
