USWNT Lawsuit

The USWNT filed a Lawsuit against US Soccer for gender discrimination and unsafe working conditons. We were shocked to find out that the judge for the lawsuit has already dismissed the unequal pay and the unsafe playing conditions for the women's team. So we are going to talk about these points.

One of the main things that the USWNT has issues with is the fields they play on. It's absurd that they worry about the fields they play on. The last thing the players should have to worry about is the field they're playing on. In 2017 four of the nine last games of the USWNT season were played on turf. The women play on turf a lot more often than the men. Playing on turf is very different then playing on real grass. One big thing is how much the fields can heat up. According to Safe Healthy Playing Fields Coalition the fields can heat up to seventy degrees hotter than the surrounding air on a warm day when the sun is out. Playing on artificial turf can also increase the chance of ankle, knee and ACL injuries.

The pay difference between the USWNT and the USMNT has been an issue for a while. This situation is number-filled and a little complicated so we are just going to keep it simple. The men get paid more for making the World cup team and winning the World Cup (which they haven't). According to the San Francisco Chronicle and the lawsuit, the USMNT got paid 5.375 million dollars in performance bonuses for only making it to the round of 16 in 2014. While the USWNT only got 1.725 million dollars in performance bonuses for winning the entire 2015 World Cup.

As you can see there is a clear difference between the USWNT and MNT when it comes to their playing conditions and pay. The USWNT deserves better!
