Hi everyone! We hope everyone is staying safe and healthy, This week the North Carolina Courage played the Orlando Pride, the Chicago Red Stars played Sky Blue FC, and last but not least Portland Thorns FC played the Utah Royals.
North Carolina Courage v Orlando Pride
This was Orlando Prides first game back in a while. You might not remember that Orlando had to drop out of the Challenge Cup because of COVID-19 cases throughout the team and staff. It was also Sydney Leroux Dwyer first game back since having her daughter. It was definitely an evenly matched game. Both teams had some pretty amazing shots but the game ended in a 0-0 tie.
Chicago Red Stars v Sky Blue FC
This game started fast and Sky Blue was first to strike. The ball was played across the goal and Alyssa Naeher was able to get a touch to it but Ifeoma Onumonu was there to tap the ball into the net. This gave Sky Blue a 1-0 lead in the first 7 minutes. Chicago came back quick though, The ball was played through to Kealia Watt who dribbled closer to the goal and the passed the ball past Sky Blue goalkeeper into the back of the net! The game was tied 1-1. In the twenty-seventh minute a long ball was played over to Zoey Goralski, Sky Blues Goalkeeper was out of the box which means she couldn't use her hands, she tried to clear it but missed the ball and Goralski was able to get goal number two for Chicago. Later in the forty-fourth minute Kealia Watt passed the ball into the box where Vanessa DiBernardo shot the ball into the left side of the net! Chicago was up 3-1 and that is what the half time score would come to, but not full time. In the fifty-seventh minute Sarah Luebbert dribbled down the field passed the ball wide to Kealia Watt on the left side who dribbled a little more and poked the ball into the right corner of the goal! The score was 4-1! The final score of the game was 4-1 Chicago.
Portland Thorns v Utah Royals FC
Portland defiantly dominated this match. In the the thirty-fourth minute the ball was chipped over to Simone Charley who using her fancy footwork beat to defenders and put the ball into the bottom right corner of the goal! Portland was up 1-0! Portland was no were close to do though. In the seventy-second minute Meghan Klingenberg crossed the ball in to the box were Sophia Smith headed the ball into the back of the net! The was Sophia Smiths first goal of her NWSL carrier! Still not done though. In the eight-second minute Abby Smith for the Utah Royals passed the ball to one of her defenders but it didn't have enough pace, as Abby Smith started clearing in Lindsey Horan was able to deflect the ball into the goal. Portland was up by 3 goals and that was how the game ended. 3-0 Portland.
